All A's

Brennan's first report card for the 5th grade was all A's!! She also had no abscences or tardies. We are so proud of her! We hope she can do it all year and make Principals Honor Roll. To keep her motivated, we implemented a bribe: $5 or every A...if it works, we may be broke by Summer.

Back to School

I can't believe that she is in 5th grade already! She absolutely LOVES her teacher. She brought home her Progress Report yesterday and has all A' and B's...YEAH!!

Girl Scouts are back in full swing too! Their first meeting was on Tuesday. They have planned a trip to Savannah over Spring Break to visit Juliet Lowe's house. She founded the Girl Scouts, so this is very exciting for the girls. Cookie orders begin in January!!

Softball, Softball, Softball

Well, it's that time of year again! A new season has begun. Brennan actually got back on the same team from the Spring, but several girls have moved up. So she is now one of the older girls and has moved into a permanent infield position. She has played short stop for the two games we've had so far, and she's done great! Her hitting is improving and she's worked her way up to the first batter position. She has shown interest in pitching and has done a few workouts with one of the coaches and we've been practicing at home as well. If she wants to really try it, we'll start lessons later in the fall.

Last Sunday, she tried out for a 10U travel team and we found out on Monday night that they want her to join their team. Of course we accepted, realizing the commitment that it will take from us, as well as Brennan. She is so excited and will actually start practicing with them this weekend. They will play tournaments, beginning in March all the way through the end of July. I think this will be a wonderful opportunity for her to learn so much and make more friends.

Honor Roll

Brennan brought home her report card on Friday. She was very excited to show it to me! For the third time this year, she had all A's and B's. Only one more 9 week period to go, let's see if she can go the entire year! We were so proud of her!

Home Run!

During Brennan's game on Tuesday night, she hit a home run! She was the first batter in the second inning, it was her last pitch, the score was 3-2(we were losing). When she hit the ball, it went over the shortstop's head and rolled all the way to the fence before the outfielders could catch up to it. She rounded the bases so fast, the ball wasn't even close to getting her out before she crossed home plate to tie it up! Unfortunately, they ended up losing 5-4.

Opening Day, March 10, 2007

Saturday was a busy day for Brennan. She had Opening Day ceremonies at Kennworth Park, and a double header to follow. Needless to say, we were at the ballpark for 7 hours!! The ceremony was neat, the high school ROTC presented the flags while the chorus sang the National Anthem and we all said the pledge. Then the board members spoke about how the league grew from 99 girls to 276 girls in one season. That's huge for a leagues that's only been up and running since August. All the girls stood out on the field, by team, during the ceremony to be recognized. To close the cermony, the Cobb County Parks and Rec Director threw out the first pitch. It was actually very moving to see all these girls so committed to the sport.

Afterwards, we stayed at the park to warm up for the first game. The first game was quite a disappointment as a whole, BUT Brennan played great. Most of the girls on her team were very intimidated by the pitcher, because she was older (and bigger). They were not swinging at her pitches, or if they did, it was late. We had a lot of strike outs. Brennan was the ONLY girl to make it safey to first base...the ENTIRE game. And she stole second and third to boot! Unfortunately, the next batter struck out, which was the third out, so Brennan couldn't score! Final score 8-0....OUCH!!

They took the field again, after a ten minute break, and played much better. They started swinging their bats, making nice plays in the field and scoring runs! Brennan is an outfielder, she made a few stops, chased down a couple of balls that went over her head, got an RBI on her hit, and made it home to score another point! In the last inning, coach let her play third base and she tagged a girl out who was trying to steal third. We were so proud! Final score...Bandits WIN 6-2!!

My first blog

Just to get everyone up-to-date with Brennan: she is in 4th grade and has been on honor roll all year so far. We are so proud of the accomplishments she has made this year. She has been a Girl Scout since Kindergarten and loves to be involoved. She sold 260 boxes of cookies this year, which was the third highest in her troup. Brennan has played softball since age 6 and began fast pitch back in the fall of 2005. We just changed parks and she is on a new team, so it has taken a little adjustment to get used to the new girls and coaches. Fortunately she is a very outgoing little girl and has no problem with new people! Opening day is Saturday, March 10. More info to come in the future!
